This week in Moreno Valley: August 31–September 6

The Moreno Valley City Council meets Tuesday September 1 in two sessions: a closed meeting at an unspecified time to confer with legal counsel on labor negotiations and potential litigation, followed by a regular public meeting starting at an unspecified time. The council will consider adopting an ordinance on logistics use facility mitigation measures (Ordinance 1047), which was negotiated with the California Attorney General's Office. Residents may speak during public comment periods; a speaker slip (blue form) is required for remarks on agenda items, and speakers have three minutes each. The council will also review and approve its Conflict of Interest Code as part of a biennial update. Throughout the week, Moreno Valley Public Libraries offer consistent programming for children, teens, and adults. Toddler Time (stories, rhymes, songs, and movement for ages 12–36 months) runs at multiple branches: Iris Plaza on Monday at 10 and 11 a.m., Main Library on Friday at 10 and 11 a.m., and MV Mall on Saturday at 11 a.m. ABC's & 123's (preschool learning for ages 3–5) meets at Main Library on Tuesday at 10 and 11 a.m., at MV Mall on Wednesday at 11 a.m., and at Iris Plaza on Thursday at 10 a.m. Discovery Club (science, technology, engineering, and math activities for ages 8–12) runs Monday through Friday at multiple branches. Bilingual Storytime in English and Spanish for children under 5 is Thursday at 11 a.m. at MV Mall. Game On!, featuring video and tabletop games plus VR experiences for teens and emerging adults, meets Thursday at Iris Plaza and Saturday at MV Mall, both at later times. Family Fun creative projects for all ages occur throughout the week at all three library branches. Talk MoVal, an English conversation group for all levels, meets Thursday at Main Library and Friday at Iris Plaza, both at 5 p.m. Time for Adults offers new activities for adults on Tuesday at MV Mall (6 p.m.) and Wednesday at Main Library (6 p.m.). Dragons in the Stacks, a tabletop role-playing game group for adults, meets Tuesday at 4 p.m. at MV Mall. The Mix, for teens ages 13–18, meets Wednesday at 4 p.m. at MV Mall. Pijamas & Stories (bilingual stories and songs for children under 5) runs Thursday at 6 p.m. at Main Library. A free Basic Computer Skills Class covering internet, email, and Microsoft Office is offered Saturday at 10 a.m. at MV Mall. Most programs require advance registration or have limited seating; call your branch library or visit in person to reserve a spot. Libraries are closed Monday September 7 for Labor Day; regular hours resume Tuesday September 8.

Beyond the libraries, Building Up Lives Foundation holds Shop for a Cause fundraisers Saturday September 5 and Sunday September 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 23185 Hemlock Avenue, Suite A, selling discounted household and personal items to support the nonprofit's operating costs. The foundation also offers a Free Food Giveaway every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the same location.
