This week in Moreno Valley: August 24–30

The Planning Commission meets Thursday, August 27, to consider two commercial development proposals that will shape the business landscape in Moreno Valley's District 1.

The first is a plot plan for a new truck sales, leasing, fueling, and maintenance facility on a 9.1-acre site east of Old 215 Frontage Road and south of Alessandro Boulevard, in the Business Park District. The Commission will review an environmental analysis completed under state law and decide whether to approve the project subject to conditions of approval.

The second is a plot plan for a 4,767-square-foot automated car wash with associated parking and landscape improvements on the east side of Pigeon Pass Road, between Ironwood Avenue and Hemlock Avenue. Both projects require Planning Commission approval. Public testimony on each item is limited to three minutes per speaker. Anyone wishing to speak can submit a speaker slip to Planning Staff when they arrive.

Meanwhile, the public libraries across Moreno Valley continue their steady calendar of free programs for families, children, teens, and adults. Toddler Time runs multiple times throughout the week at the Main Library, Iris Plaza Branch, and Mall Branch, with stories, songs, and movement activities for children ages 12 to 36 months. Preschoolers ages 3 to 5 can join ABC's & 123's sessions designed to build early reading skills. The Discovery Club, offered throughout the week at multiple locations, introduces children ages 8 to 12 to science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on activities and experiments.

Teens and young adults have their own spaces: Dragons in the Stacks at the Mall Branch on Tuesday, August 25, offers tabletop role-playing games for adults with imagination to build other worlds. Game On! at Iris Plaza features video games including Rocket League, Roblox, and Minecraft, plus virtual reality experiences, on Thursday, August 27, and Saturday, August 29. The Mix at the Mall Branch on Wednesday, August 26, is a low-key program for ages 13 to 18 focused on book discussions, crafts, art, and workshops.

Adults can practice English conversation at Talk MoVal sessions on Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28, at both the Main Library and Iris Plaza. Creative Studio at Iris Plaza on Thursday offers free art instruction and supplies. Family Fun projects run throughout the week at all library locations, offering creative activities for all ages.

Building Up Lives Foundation holds a Shop for a Cause fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30, at 23185 Hemlock Avenue, with discounted clothing, tools, electronics, and household items. A free food giveaway takes place every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the same location.
